Jurassic Park III Ultra T.rex (and it's repaints)

*sigh* The largest Hasbro T.rex from 2001 from Jurassic Park III is hated among most fans. I personally hold no qualms towards it except for the fact that it is fragile and that the jaw/right arm mechanism is often broken.

A delicate dino, this figure is prone to breaking, and quite common. Recently it was revealed that this is the Junior T.rex from The Lost World. Last you saw HIM, he was chomping up a carcass, until Dr. Grant and his foolish troupe connected it with a rampaging Spinosaurus on Isla Sorna AKA Site B. We all know how that ended. The figure sports a massive wound to the side.

Everyone I know hates this figure. And I know why. Buuuut let bygones be bygones. The colors are nice, and the electronics are nice. Push the arm, it opens the jaw letting out that "woooohhh..." or "noooooo" like in TLW when Roland Tembo shot it. The side button causes it to go "noooooaaaghhh!" in a higher pitch with some added garbage. Nice SFX, as most JPIII dinosaurs have in my opinion. This is as long as a young T.rex from JP1, 35+ cm long. It's articulated on both the legs and arms, something we had not seen on a large dino since the Thrasher T.rex. The colors are really good. So what's the issue? The face. I swear it looks like a friend I had in 2nd grade who was a class A suck-up. Every one of us has a personal problem with this T.rex. Mine still works, 14 years after it's release, but it still does not belong with the Kenner JP populace. Why? Because by this point Kenner is dead.

As you can see, mine is rather...uhh...dusty.

Oh no the ATDT Billy has found it! KEEP IN MIND ATDT Billy is NOT Kenner Size, but Star Wars sized: 3.5 inch tall.

I saw Alessandro Nivola in American Hustle. But he is now eaten. By my Ultra T.rex. Too bad!

But the fun never ends because Ultra T.rex was repainted 3 times!!! CamoXTreme Canyon T.rex, the Jurassic Park Dinosaurs 2 and 3! Same mold. Might as well review the other three. CamoXtreme Canyon T.rex is made of a grey plastic that is ESPECIALLY BRITTLE, it yellows over time, AND IT BREAKS. Good luck finding one that isn't broken. For a time it was thought to be unreleased and scalpers were selling them at 600 a piece. Once they suddenly became common at KB toys, everyone grabbed them, including myself, in a massive attack. I just wanted to have one MIB and one loose. The loose one has yellowed even though I kept it away from the sun. I expect it to disintegrate in 10 years. The other two repaints were released only on Toys R Us (and KB) and are not easy to find. All the ones I've had to sell were broken and had non working electronics except for one, which is found here: http://stores.ebay.com/Lulus-Mesozoic-Emporium?_dmd=1&_nkw=ultra

It is what it is. 2001 Hasbro fresh off the Ep1 failure. All of Kenner has gone by now. It's a really sad story, really. But everything happens for a reason. This is an underappreciated dino because of how common it is and because it was a shelf-warmer for a bit. Heh. Good luck finding one that works! 3 A72 Batteries, which costs approx. $10 to acquire will fix these...some of the time. My opinion is null, this is the JR. T.rex from TLW after all. Sarah and Nick saved it only so it would be killed by Spinosaurus. Meh. Animatronic Spinos go for $300+ as of this writing, so who's the winner now?

Battat Museum of Science Dilophosaurus

One of my favorite lines ever, which is currently seeing a revival, the Battat Dilophosaurus is one of my favorite Dilophosaur figures ever.

A proportionally correct figure, the one thing that bothers people the most is its tripodal posture, especially when it's highly unlikely that their tails could curve in that fashion. There's several variants to the figure, mini, version 1 and version 2. I believe this is version 1, let me know if I'm wrong.

Very few dinosaurs come in this particular tripod posture, and the colors are pretty interesting as well. Dark forest green over a sort of darkish warm grey with brick colored crests. It's hard to read this figure. It almost looks like it's...communicating. Not hunting, not looking around, maybe yawning? It's...definitely...uh...interesting.

The most interesting aspect about this figure is really its rarity, and it's pose. I believe it will get a repaint sometime within the next 72 months and be made available at Target stores across the USA, but I'm not sure on that.

Proportionally longer than its kin, and because I am biased, this is one great Dilophosaurus figure. I love them all. If you see it, buy it. Prices are likely to decrease due to the repaint, or maybe they'll go up. I got this in a very lucky lot, but I've seen people pay $40+ for it. It's up to you, the buyer, if this dinosaur is worthy. I think they're all worthy, no matter the cost but...well...I spared no expense, hehe.

I would review the Carnegie Dilophosaur pair here, but I already did here: http://dinotoyblog.com/2014/10/15/dilophosaurus-pair-carnegie-collection-by-safari-ltd/

That review is exclusive to the Dino Toy Blog. And follow their link, because I often sell that pair!

That's it for Dilophosaurus! Watch out for a new review later today! I'm back! Let's make this fun!

Christ Almighty!!!

It's been...Since MARCH that I reviewed something! I apologize for letting this blog die. BUT NOW BEHOLD ITS RESURRECTION!!! I was busy with school and stuff. I graduated and while I will continue school as a post-bac, the load is gonna be easier. Aaaanywho, let's get on to the next Dilophosaurus!

Schleich Dilophosaurus

I am so sorry. No new updates. Shame on me. I'm in the tail end of my Spring Break, and I'm graduating this next term. My real life totally overshadows my dinosaur life, but that does not mean I'm not completely insane about dinosaur toys. Continuing with my Dilophosaur dilemma, here we will look at yet another Dillow, as my friend "Tylosaurus" calls them.

For those who have seen my "Dillow" collection, you must realize that you only see 25% of what is known as Dilophosaurus, which is...uh...my favorite dinosaur. Schleich brings us here a very vintage looking yet colorful Dilophosaurus straight out of all your favorite dino books!

any fool who does not understand Dilophosaurus or its discovery history will say this looks like a generic theropod. Well, for the longest time Dilophosaurus sat in the wastebasket taxon Megalosaurus in the USA until better material was acquired, revealing a much more different, interesting animal. The big first carnivore, as books press it to be, this mold represents everything that was both wrong and right about paleoart back in the 60's-80's. This mold drags and cults its tail around, yet looks menacing as a dragon, and the coloration is quite lovely, if I may say so myself. It's a really well executed retro-style Dilophosaurus.

All Dillows are welcome in my collection, and this particular aged piece is quite the beloved piece.

I cannot lie. This is a highly inaccurate, outdated mold. Funny how it is more modern than JP 1993's stuff, and still manage to be more outdated. Get this if you're a vintage-ist, a hardcore fan or a lover of Dilophosaurus. Personally, being the latter, all Dillows are beautiful in my eyes! This mold is no exception, and he's in scale with all other edu-toy Dillows as well! Don't miss out. Highly recommended.

Procon CollectA Dilophosaurus

Procon CollectA Dilophosaurus

I bought this 7 years ago when Procon CollectA was in its infancy as I wanted to have all Dilophosaurus ever. It's... not the best sculpt ever...it's highly inaccurate, but it's got a very gnarly paint wash!

It could be worse. This is actually a very nicely detailed sculpt with wrinkles and scales and stuff. I have one other figure from CollectA and it's Agustinia (the small one) and I've always loved it. CollectA is known for producing dinosaur figures not often produced enough, and while this Dillow is not one of the best, they are producing some very high quality dinosaur toys now a days! Boy if I had the space... Still it's a nice vintage looking Dillow. I love it.

If anything this particular Dillow looks like a noasaur... but that's just me. Downwards upper jaws and weird looking lower jaw? This screams of Noasaurus or Masiakasaurus if anything! But let's...let's not delve into that little obsession of mine yet.

It's also in near scale to most other Dillows. Very nice. I think it's a nice dinosaur figure to have. Doesn't take up a ton of space and has some personality to it. The color wash is quite nice! I recommend it to CollectA purists!

Safari Ltd. Dilophosaurus

Safari Ltd. Dilophosaurus

Dilophosaurus is a toothy animal, but this is the toothiest Dilophosaurus in existence. Not only it's an excellent representation of my favorite dinosaur, but it is also my favorite Safari Ltd (excluding Carnegie) figure ever.

Wow I love this figure. The colors, the pose, the details...absolutely amazing. I'm surprised it took me so long to acquire it. Maybe this dino is actually sucking up to me. I love it's "mommy, I love you, please feed me" pose. He also looks smiling and happy. While my favorite Dilophosaurus toy is the Carnegie Collection one seen EXCLUSIVELY HERE: http://dinotoyblog.com/2014/10/15/dilophosaurus-pair-carnegie-collection-by-safari-ltd/ review done by yours truly for the glory of the Dino Toy blog, this is probably my second favorite. Then again, it is hard for me to pick and choose as Dillows are my best friends.

"Mommy plz feed"

"Here you go, a chuleta of Anchisaurus"

It's rather large in comparison to other Dillows in similar scale, but that's ok. I think it is an accurate representation of the animal, and I am fond of that. Next up, ANOTHER DILLOW! WHee! It's Dillow Week!

Transformers Beast Machines Airraptor

Beast Machines Airraptor!

Sorry for my absence, school has begun and I have been busy with that. Strangely enough this has been an extremely laid back and easy week, so watch for a plethora of reviews coming this way! First up is Airraptor! Known as Archadis in Japan (and is a Destron in Beast Wars Neo), this Beast Machines Dinobot takes on an unusual form: Archaeopteryx!!!

This TF has a lot of kibble due to all those crazy feathers! He is a very colorful, highly articulated TF, and in his tech specs it is stated that he is a sniper. His gun has a clever gear mechanism so when the feather shield is rotated, the gun will be placed in his hand. His left arm is his dino head and he can sort of hold things with those jaws... His large dino wings also shield his back and chest from all sorts of attacks. He's also articulated at the hips, knees and ankles and has elbow joints, biceps and ball jointed shoulders. Oh, and a cut neck.

His dino wings can flip forward, revealing his spark contained, which denotes his allegiance to the Dinobot cause! He can also attack his enemies that way.

Transforming him isn't complicated, but it is a clever transformation. He's even cooler in Archaeopteryx mode!

Underneath the wings he holds two feather bombs. Pressing the buttons will cause the wings to pop out and drop both bombs.

Popping out the wings will also allow you to access its attack mode. The ends of the wings can be rotated outward revealing two huge cannons for air to air combat.

One of my favorite Dinobots ever, Airraptor is a worthy addition to any collection.
